SFMNP program extended

The Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council announced this week that Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) coupons may be used through Nov. 30.

The council said the program, which provides low-income seniors with $50 in coupons to use at certain farmers markets and roadside stands around the island, has been extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

KS extends application deadline for K-12 admission

Due to the unique challenges presented during the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Kamehameha Schools is extending the application deadline for K-12 admission.

The deadline for Kamehameha Schools K-12 program applications for the Kapalama, Hawaii and Maui campuses for the 2021-22 school year is now Oct. 15. Applicants may apply online at www.ksbe.edu/apply.

VFW Kona Post announces events

The VFW Kona Post, located behind Kona Locksmith on Kaiwi Street, will host its Friday meal from 4 to 7 p.m. this evening. All veterans, their family, guests and the public are welcome and encouraged to support this income source for the VFW. Mask guidelines are required for entrance.

The Irish dinner will feature shepherd’s pie, shamrock salad and dessert for $10. Checks are accepted. Preorders are appreciated by calling 769-8643. Meals can be eaten at the VFW or taken out; the bar will be open during dinner hours with masks required. To-go orders are encouraged.

Friday will also feature live Celtic music by Craiceailte from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and Sharon’s homemade one-of-a-kind holiday cards.

On Sunday, the Kona Post opens for football from noon to 5 p.m.

Taco Tuesday featuring ground beef or shrimp, rice and beans for $7 will be hosted from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. To-go orders are encouraged.

From noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, the VFW hosts a potluck with the bar open for service.
